Good Inspiration for hospitality, interior, homeware, textiles and jewellery design.
Marrakech is every designers dream destination.
From magical souks where you can find limitless textiles, pottery, metal and wicker products. The traditional craftsmanship of Morocco lives on from the Berber heritage. It offers all rounded inspiration for designers as well as a unique shopping opportunity. You have to take an empty suitcase to Marrakech. You will regret it if you don’t…
Stay at Berber lodge
Located just 30 mins drive from Medina in a small Berber village. You will experience a whole new home away from home hospitality. This is interior designers dream. You step right into an interior photoshoot. All the detail from the plates, napkins to placement of objet is thought through with an immaculate taste of the owner.
This has to be the most relaxing stay I’ve ever experienced at a hotel.
Stay at Riad Jardin Secret
This is the place to be inside the Medina. Owned by a young French couple. It has the most beautiful traditional Moroccan craft restored to perfection.
Everything from breakfast to music is curated beautifully. They have an Artist in resident scheme so you are also able to stay with them for longer to work on your art. We’ve stayed in the Artist’s studio apartment and it is a dream space for any creatives.
Buy at souk
They have anything from furniture, lighting to tooth brush holder. Focus around homeware as they were great unique designs all handmade by craftsmen. Everyone looks for the rugs which is an obvious choice in Marrakech but also it’s great for small stools, lighting as well as mirrors and other metal goods. There is also the traditional pottery in green reactive glaze. I’ve bought few vases but I would stay away from anything to do with food as that gorgeous glaze does contain lead, which is lethal!
Remember to haggle! Go in lower then you want to pay and be strong negotiating!
Go to YSL Museum
We all know YSL had love for Morocco and his house has been turned into museum with additional architectural delight building next to it showcasing his work.
The garden is very famous. It showcases various cacti and neon colour pop plant pops which are dreamy.
It’s also next to Berber museum. It’s definitely a must!
