Power of Creativity in the Commercial World
Creatives often struggle to have their contributions recognized and compensated financially compared to their commercial counterparts. During a discussion with my leadership coach, who has had an impressive career in the creative industry and ended up as a CEO, I asked how to measure the value of creativity in the data-driven business world. While our colleagues in the Commerical depts have clear KPIs to measure their impact, we are not measured against ours, despite contributing significantly to their KPIs. This led me to contemplate the significant impact creativity has in the commercial world.
The power of creativity in the commercial world cannot be overstated. It is a crucial driver of innovation, differentiation, and growth for businesses of all sizes and industries. Here are some ways creativity can impact the commercial world:
Product and Service Innovation: Creative ideas can help businesses to develop new products and services that meet the changing needs of consumers. Creative thinking can help businesses identify new ways of solving problems and develop unique solutions that set them apart from their competitors. At the end of the day, we are the most in tune with customers’ needs and collect qualitative data to form and inform the innovation.
Branding and Marketing: Creativity is essential in creating a brand identity that stands out and resonates with customers. Creative branding and marketing campaigns can help businesses to capture attention, generate interest, and build brand loyalty.
User Experience: Creative approaches can also be applied to improving user experience, making products and services more accessible, enjoyable, and memorable for customers. By putting the customer at the centre of their design process, businesses can create products and services that customers love and want to use.
Employee Engagement: Creativity is also vital in creating a positive and engaging work environment. Businesses that encourage creativity and innovation among their employees are more likely to attract and retain talented staff, leading to increased productivity and employee satisfaction.
Problem-solving: Creative thinking can help businesses to identify new ways of solving complex problems. By approaching challenges with a fresh perspective, businesses can come up with innovative solutions that are more effective, efficient, and sustainable.
In summary, creativity is a powerful tool that businesses can leverage to drive innovation, differentiation, and growth. By encouraging creativity throughout the organization, businesses can create a culture of innovation that generates new ideas, improves products and services, and drives business success.
Knowing our superpowers and how we contribute, we should think about how we create our KPIs in the commercial world to champion creativity and the value we bring.
